When I drew the 2 kois, I actually sought out advice from my mom for what Chinese quote I could pair with the illustration. I love being able to go to my mom for information and advice on Chinese idioms/sayings, especially since they're things she grew up hearing and is knowledgeable about. In a way, a lot of my Chinese designs are collaborations with my mom and I'm glad I'm able to share this space with her (and also get that Asian mom seal of approval and validation lol).
In Chinese, abundance and fish both sound similar which is why the fish symbolizes abundance.
